The Big C
A collaboration between two artists Daisy Southern and Sophie Bartlett. Southern’s Practice is mostly centred around performance and currently further researching into the everyday life. Bartlett practice discusses the Anthropocene. By bringing their interests together they created ‘The Big C’.
Presenting a dystopian future in which an autopsy on a dead body highlights the problem of plastic pollution today, this piece explores our concerns of consumption, commodification and conservation. The Big C alludes to these themes as being a cancer on the environment and our health. We also play with signs and symbols. Kitchen utensils are everyday items which we use to prepare what goes into our bodies, here we also use them to take out from the body.
